What they said

On CNN in October 2023 the President said his volunteer “went in with the Special Forces into Kfar Aza,” where “60% of the population were murdered.”

What the records show

The volunteer himself told a news site he waited outside the gate and soldiers brought the babies to him. The army’s count is 64 of about 850 residents killed — about 7.5%.

Why it matters for donors

Donors gave after hearing this story on national TV. The details on record are different.

The proof

Their statement: On CNN’s The Source (video posted by the organization Oct 17, 2023), at 3:04–3:21, the President says volunteer Shalom “went in with the Special Forces into Kfar Aza… which is 60% of the population were murdered.” On the Ben Shapiro show (Oct 21, 2023) at 16:39 he says “the yamam came in, our volunteers came in with them.”

The record: Shalom Avitan himself told VIN on Oct 9, 2023 that he waited outside the gate and soldiers brought the babies out to him. The IDF probe (reported by JPost, Mar 3, 2025) counts 64 residents killed out of about 850 — about 7.5%, not 60%.

Which is it? Inside with Special Forces, or at the gate? 60% of the town, or about 7.5%? The same CNN interview also says the soldiers brought the babies out to the volunteers. See also the book-trailer entry.
