What they said

Many outlets present these stories as news reports.

What the records show

In a sample of 359 Kikar HaShabbat articles, 37% reused at least half of a release. Two US sites also run paid, labeled ads for the group.

Why it matters for donors

When news repeats a press release, donors hear one side twice.

The proof

Their statement: Outlets present items as news reports.

The record: Kikar: 132 of 359 sampled articles (37%) reuse ≥50% of a release (17 ≥80%). JNS: 24 items in “The Wire” (press releases). YWN and VIN carry labelled “Sponsored Content” appeals (10 at YWN, 27 at VIN), 99–100% identical across both.

Which is it? Sponsored items are disclosed advertising, not evidence of paid news. Low overlap at YWN/VIN doesn’t prove independent reporting.
